More than two months after the 19-km 1,800-crore Chennai Port-Maduravoyal elevated corridor project was halted, the National Highways Authority of India has moved seeking Rs 668 crore as compensation from the State government.

In a writ petition, the NHAI has requested the Madras high court to direct the Tamil Nadu government to take all steps to proceed with the project, and to help complete it within a time frame.

Work on the project came to a halt after the State Public Works Department issued a notice to the NHAI, asking it to stop work immediately. It accused the NHAI of deviating from the approved alignment.
