In Kochi city, the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) has now sent a notice to the Ernakulam district collector and appealed him to repair works in areas where Kerala Water Authority (KWA) has dug up roads.
NHAI’s letter states that KWA is incapable of proper repairs and so the district administration should ensure that works are done as per NHAI standards.
The district collector had frozen the accounts of NHAI a few months ago, after the agency failed to carry out repair work along Vyttila-Kumbalam stretch. The letter was sent after KWA had sought permission to dig up the national highway stretch near Vyttila Junction to repair pipes.
NHAI had then asked KWA to deposit Rs 15 lakh in advance. But KWA had replied that the agency couldn’t deposit such a huge amount.
NHAI said that wherever, KWA digs up a road, the agency is unable to repair it as per NHAI standards. The road near Kumbalam toll plaza that was dug up for repair works a few months ago is yet to be restored. That’s why we requested the district collector to intervene and make sure that road is relaid properly, NHAI said.
