Nashik Municipal Corporation (NMC) would announce a Rs 2,539.95 crore civic budget for 2013-14 on May 14. It may be recalled that the standing committee of the civic body raised the size of the budget from the initial estimate of Rs 1,556.80 crore to Rs 2,359.95 crore.

The committee revised the budget estimates by suggesting measures to increase the revenue of the civic body by Rs 803.15 crore.

On February 18, Municipal Commissioner Sanjay Khandare reportedly presented a Rs 1,556.80 crore budget to the then standing committee Chairman Uddhav Nimse.

The revised budget would be presented at a special general body meeting (GBM) on May 14. There has been a delay in presenting the budget owing to the reconstitution of the standing committee and the elections for post of chairperson of the committee. Newly elected standing committee Chairman Ramesh Dhongade will present the revised civic budget.

The committee proposed a hike of Rs 43.45 crore in the revenue collected from property and other taxes that was originally projected at Rs 136.12 crore.

It also proposed a hike in revenue collected from development tax from Rs 52 crore to Rs 75 crore. The revenue from services and amenities was proposed to be hiked from Rs 47.77 crore to Rs 85 crore.

The committee suggested increasing grants for the Kumbh mela from Rs 76.99 crore to Rs 376.99 crore. The civic body expects to get Rs 195 crore as compensation from the National Highways Authority of India for the widening of the highway and service roads.
