The New Mangalore Port Trust (NMPT) registered a growth of 4.81 per cent in overall cargo handling in the first three months of 2011-12 owing to a rise in the handling of coal, LPG, crude oil and container cargoes among others. The total cargo handling at the port in the first quarter of the current financial year stood at 8.53 million tonne (mn t) as against 8.13 mn t in the corresponding period of the previous fiscal.
