The Union Minister of State for Power Jyotiraditya M Scindia told the the Rajya Sabha recently that the upcoming Darlipali Project (2×800 mw) in Odisha is in the process of land acquisition by the State government. The process of environment and forest clearance of the project as well as its linked Dulanga coal mine from Ministry of Environment of Forests (MoEF) is also in progress.

NTPC has reported the following progress in the project so far:

• Out of 1274 acres of private land, possession certificate has been received for 1205 acres.

• Out of 338.97 acres of government land, payment for 275 acres has been released by NTPC to the State government and transfer of government land is under process of approval of State government.

• Environment clearance for the project has been recommended by Expert Appraisal Committee (EAC) of the Union Minister of Environment and Forests on January 9 in 2012 subject to grant of forest clearance for Darlipali Project and environment and forest clearance for linked Dulanga coal mine.

• For forest clearance of 34.47 acres forest land of Darlipali Project, Forest Advisory Committee (FAC) of MoEF during its meeting held on June 10 and 11, 2013 had recommended for holistic decision on diversion of forest land required for two interdependent projects (Darlipali and Dulanga) and also further recommended for transfer the proposal for diversion of forest land for Darlipali Project to MoEF for consideration by FAC along with that of Dulanga proposal.

Darlipali forest proposal was sent to MoEF on last July 31.
