NTPC’s 250 MW unit at Bihar begins commercial operations

NTPC has announced that its commercial capacity has increased to 46,178 MW after its subsidiaryÂ’s 250 MW unit became commercially operational at Nabinagar in Bihar.

“The 1st unit of 250 MW of Nabinagar thermal power project of Bhartiya Rail Bijlee Company Ltd (BRBCL), a subsidiary of NTPC, (4×250 MW) declared commercial operation from 00:00 hours of January 15, 2017,” NTPC said in a statement.

With this, the commercial capacity of the Nabinagar thermal power project of BRBCL and NTPC has become 250 MW and 46,178 MW, respectively.

Bharatiya Rail Bijlee Company Ltd was incorporated on November 22, 2007 with 74:26 equity contribution from NTPC and the Ministry of Railways, respectively, for setting up of four units of 250 MW each of coal-based power plant at Nabinagar in Bihar.

The investment approval of the project was accorded in January 2008. Around 90 per cent power from this project is to be supplied to the Railways to meet traction and non-traction power requirements.
