High-level clearance authority (HLCA) allowed four major port developing agencies to participate in the financial bidding for a riverine port on Mahanadi River in Kendrapada district on Public Private Partnership (PPP) mode. The riverine port will be developed in two phases and will create direct and indirect 4,300 and 10,700 employment opportunities in the first and second phase, respectively. While the first phase will establish two berths for transportation of 18.43 million tonne per annum (MTPA) cargo with an investment of Rs 21.1 billion, the second phase will require additional land of 125 hectares as the capacity of transportation of cargo will increase from 18.43 mtpa to 45.88 mtpa.
