Odisha to come out with a solar policy in next two months

Targeting a generation of 50 MW of solar power within one year, Odisha government said its comprehensive solar policy would be in place in the next two months. The State Science and Technology Secretary DN Gupta said that private investors were interes­ted to put their money in the sector.

Gupta said, so far eight private companies have alre­ady set up their solar power generation plants having  1 MW capacity each.
 
As part of its policy, the state gov­ernment will promote rooftop solar power units, solar heating system and solar water pump system, he indicated.

The state govern­ment also targeted generation of 80 MW of solar power within next three years, Gupta said, adding that Odisha Electri­city Regulatory Commission (OERC) has asked the Gridco Corporation of Odisha (Gridco) to purchase certain amount of renewable energy including solar power.
