In Odisha, the Mahendragiri of Gajapati district is not only a religious place, but also a famous tourist place. However, now it needs proper attention to save the heritage place. Mahendragiri has yet to get an all weather road. Earlier, the Andhra Pradesh Government included Mahendragiri hills in Gajapati district in the official website of the Andhra Pradesh Tourism Development Corporation (APTDC) portal.
But after the Odisha GovernmentÂ’s intervention, the hill has been excluded from the APTDC portal. District BJP president Tripati Nayak alleged that a tender worth Rs 11 crore had been invited for construction of an 11 km puccka road from Kaipure to Barukhota and from Barikhota to Mahendragiri peak. But it has not been completed yet.
On the eve of the Maha Shiva Ratri, even as thousands of people came to worship the lord on the hill top, the authorities took no steps to construct the road for the tourists, said Nayak.
