The request of the Jammu and Kashmir government to state-run oil marketing companies (OMCs) to open new gas agencies at 1,800 locations was rejected by these firms.
Instead, OMCs identified only 102 locations for new gas agencies across the state. It is learnt that twice these companies rejected the state governmentÂ’s proposal.
The state government is said to have submitted the proposal to the oil companies and to the central government. The advertisements may be issued in next couple of weeks for new agencies, reports suggest.
In order to avoid any LPG shortage during the winter months, consumers of Indian Oil Corporation (IOC) have strongly demanded the establishment of OIC bottling plant in the valley.
It is learnt that around 1.5 lakh IOC gas consumers in the valley suffer LPG crises at the time of Jammu -Srinagar highway closure owing to heavy snowfall in the winter season.
The central and state government must press for the establishment of IOC bottling plant in the valley. So that IOC companyÂ’s LPG consumers donÂ’t meet out any gas refill crises during the winter months when usually road gets closed due to heavy snowfall and landslides, said IOC consumer Javid Iqbal of Srinagar.
In order to prevent supply disruption in future, IOC consumers asked the state government to ensure at least 50,000 IOC LPG cylinders.
