For the service of seafarers visiting the Liquid Cargo Berths of Kandla Port, one more Seafarers’ Centre was dedicated recently. On the Independence Day, (on last August 15), the inauguration of the new Seafarers’ Centre was done by unveiling of the plaque followed by cutting of the ribbon by the chief guest of the function PD Vaghela Chairman of the Kandla Port Trust.

Captain HK Sibal, Deputy Conservator, Kandla Port and president, Kandla Seafarers Welfare Association explained that how the welfare activity for the seafarers was started for meeting the physical, social, practical and spiritual needs of seafarers. A warm welcome is always extended to the Seafarer’s, which ease the pain of loneliness and isolation and to offer a respite from the hazards of the sea.

Himself as a seafarer shared his travel experiences. He travelled and availed the facilities given by many International Port around the World. He said even though the Welfare Activity was started in April, 2009, it took off after PD Vaghela, gave leadership as the Patron of the Association. In December, 2010, it was under his guidance that the idea of setting up a seafarers’ centre inside the Port birthed and progressed so far and a benchmark was setup for other Ports in India to follow, he said.
