According to a performance report of state-owned Oil and Natural Gas Corp (ONGC), the firm produced 5.8 per cent less crude oil at 20.485 million tonne (mn t) in 2012-13 compared to 21.76 mn t achieved in the previous year.
The report, which was submitted to the union oil ministry recently, also shows that the output was also short of 21.64 mn t target set for the year.
In 2012-13, the firm’s main asset, Mumbai High, yielded 9.55 mn t of oil, lower than 9.976 mn t in 2011-12. Output from Neelam- Heera fields in the Mumbai offshore at 2.92 mn t as well as 2.28 mn t of production at Mehsana oilfields in Gujarat were lower than the previous year’s output.
The company attributes the decline in output to non-commencement of production from G-1 field in eastern offshore and overhauling of process gas compressors at Neelam filed. Output was also affected by poor influx, increase in water cut and power shutdowns, among other factors.
Natural gas production was however higher at 23.54 billion cubic metre (bn cm) as compared to 23.31 bn cm in 2011-12. Its biggest field Bassein in western offshore produced 12.43 bn cm of gas as opposed to 12.372 bn cm in the previous fiscal.
The company sold 18.6 bn cm of gas in 2012-13 compared to 18.22 bcm a year ago. During 2012-13, ONGC made 22 oil and gas discoveries – 12 new prospects and the remaining new pool discoveries, the report said.
