A sub-committee has been formed to look into high handling charges at Cochin port. Trustees of the Cohin Port Trust (ChPT) who met at Kochi on October 30 decided in this regard. The committee comprises representatives of the community of clearing and forwarding agents, steamer agents, Customs House agents, export organisations, 2 labour trustees of the port as well as secretary of the port and traffic manager.
The panel has been asked to submit the report as soon as possible. High handling charges on fertilisers has forced the Union Fertiliser Ministry not to allocate quota for Kochi.
The charge at Kochi for handling a tonne of fertiliser is significantly higher than in other ports.
