Panvel Municipal Council (PMC) has initiated steps to revive a defunct bio-gas plant located in the market yard area on Uran road. After PMC sought the help of Bhabha Atomic Research Centre (BARC) in reviving the project, BARC submitted a proposal to revive the plant at a cost of around Rs.25 lakh.
The 5 MT bio-gas plant was functional from 2008 to 2014. However, hoteliers, who were expected to buy bio-gas, and even residents rejected the PMC idea.
Later, BARC, in its report submitted to the PMC, had suggested various modifications and measures to revive the plant.
The modifications include using electric motor, shifting slurry storage and mixing area to the top of pre-digester, renovation of pre and main digesters, electricity generator and using cow dung and solar heater among others.
