Sources from Paradip Port Trust (PPT) informed that
the authority would conduct fresh bidding for the Rs 591.35 crore the iron ore berth project and Rs 387.31 crore multi-purpose berth project.
The port authority wants to engage a private player for the construction of a 10-mn tpa deep draft iron ore berth and a 5-mn tpa multi-purpose berth on BOT basis.
It decided to invite fresh bids (RFQs or requests for qualification) for the two projects because the earlier concessionaires failed to begin work owing to lack of interest.
In another development, the port authority extended the deadline for submitting quotations for supplying two mobile harbour cranes.
After a long gap, the port resumed handling export of agri-products. For the first time, rice is being exported through the port in containers, it is learnt.
A total of 2,650 tonne of rice in bags has been brought to the port in 42 wagons from Raipur, Chhattisgarh, for shipment to Indonesia. The exporter is Srilatha Enterprise, sources say.
The port handled a total of 23.13 million tonne till July (April to July) compared with 16.19 mn t in the same period last fiscal. This represents a 42.83 per cent growth thus maintaining the second position among all major ports in terms of volume handled as well as rate of growth. In July alone, the volume handled was 6.13 mn t (4.45 mn t) or a growth of 37.66 per cent.
