In a move that raises the operational capacity of APM Terminals Pipavav, the port authority upgraded its infrastructure with the ability to carry double stack high cube containers. The double stack container trains commenced recently and this made APM Terminals Pipavav one of the two ports in India with this capability. The infrastructure would enable the port reduce transportation cost, enhance operational capacity for the port, inland container depots and rail operators.
The very first double stack high cube container train left APM Terminals Pipavav on July 17, 2013, with a full load of 180 TEUs for CONCOR’s new double stack hub, Kathuwas in Rajasthan. The port authority feels that the commencement of double stack high cube trains will be a game-changer for not just the company but the country at large.
