Union Power wrapped up a twoday visit to Jammu & Kashmir, reviewing NHPCs key hydroelectric projects.

Union Power Minister Manohar Lal concluded his two‑day visit to Jammu & Kashmir on Monday after reviewing several key hydroelectric projects of NHPC. He was accompanied by Pankaj Agarwal, Secretary, Power, during the visit.

Bhupendra Gupta, Chairman & Managing Director, NHPC, briefed the Minister on the progress of projects across Reasi, Ramban and Kishtwar districts.

On Sunday, Lal visited NHPC’s Salal Power Project on the Chenab River in Reasi district, where he directed the company to expedite sediment removal operations in the reservoir. The works, undertaken following the termination of the Indus Waters Treaty (IWT), aim to remove accumulated silt and maximise optimal utilisation of water resources.

En route to Kishtwar, Lal conducted an aerial inspection of the 1,856 MW Sawalkot Hydroelectric Project. He later visited the Ratle Hydroelectric Project, where he laid the foundation stone for dam concreting works and urged the project team to ensure timely completion.

At NHPC’s Dulhasti Power Station in Kishtwar, Lal was received by Sanjay Kumar Singh, Director (Projects), and Ramesh Mukhiya, Managing Director, Chenab Valley Power Projects Ltd (CVPP), along with other officials.

On Monday, the Minister inspected all three CVPP projects at Pakal Dul (1,000 MW), Kiru (624 MW), and Kwar (540 MW). He held a review meeting with project heads and contractors, directing that Pakal Dul and Kiru be commissioned by December 2026, and Kwar by March 2028.

Lal also interacted with local officials, residents and workers at various sites, listening to their concerns and commending personnel working under challenging conditions.
