RPS Kahlon, Chairman of Kolkata Port Trust (KoPT)
informed that Concast-Hyundai and Adani Ports showed interest in developing the second dock facility at Haldia.

KoPT wants to implement the Rs 1700-crore project, which involves setting up four berths at Salukhali named as Haldia dock II, under PPP model.

The facility will have two components — Haldia dock II (north) and Haldia dock II (south) with an estimated inv7estment of Rs 820 and Rs 886 crore. The project is scheduled to be commissioned by 2016-17.

Both Concast-Hyundai and Adani submitted bids for the project following assurances from the port authority that it would take care of the environment clearance issues.

KoPT received response from these two firms after extending the deadline for third time to June 16 for submitting the bids.

In order to prevent environmental damage, the Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB) prohibited new industrial units in Haldia region.

The port authority assured that the board may lift the ban on industrial development in Haldia region. Further, the port said environmental clearances are not going to be an issue for the project irrespective of whether the ban is lifted or not.
