To develop a road network of 24,569 km in Pune division comprising Pune, Satara, Sangli, Solapur and Kolhapur districts the Pune Divisional Commissionerate has sought Rs 2,500 crore from the Centre and the State governments. The commissionerate has also sought around Rs 800 crore for repair of roads.
The Commissionerate placed the proposal recently before the Vijay Kelkar committee set up by the State government to work out alternatives to remove regional imbalances in growth. The Committee visited the city earlier this month.
Pune Divisional Commissioner Prabhakar Deshmukh said that the proposal has been put before the Kelkar Committee.
He hoped the required funds are allocated at the earliest. For extension of roads and building connecting roads, the Commissionerate has demanded Rs 122 crore. For the 24,569 km roads in the division, the Commissionerate need around Rs 2,585 crore, said an official concerned.
Pune district is looking at road extension of nearly 10,077 km, which would cost of Rs 252 crore. Satara’s 3,097.82 km will incur a cost of Rs 619.56 crore, Sangli’s 1,513.30 km will cost Rs 378.25 crore, Solapur’s 8,712 km will cost Rs 871 crore and Kolhapur’s 1,168.30 km demand will cost Rs 467.32 crore.
