The Punjab government is to expand the 60 km long Sangrur-Khanouri road into four-lanes at Rs 600 crore, mainly to strengthen road connectivity with Delhi area for Malwa region in the state. The road expansion is expected to strengthen the infrastructure in Punjab. The road lead to New Delhi through Haryana.
The State government stated that the road expansion project would be completed by June 2016.
On the stretch, a total of 33 railway over bridges or under bridges (ROB/RUB) have been completed at a cost of Rs 565 crore and six ROBs/RUBs are in progress with an estimated cost of Rs 110 crore out of which 4 would be completed during the current financial year and the remaining two would be completed in the next fiscal year, the government said.
