The process for six laning of Kharar-Ludhiana road has been initiated by the Punjab government. The proposed 6-lane road would prove to be a big push to strengthen the infrastructure in the state.
Work on the 175 km road from Sambhu Border–Jalandhar would cost Rs 1,500 crore, 44 km from Bhogpur-Mukerian would cost Rs 300 crore, 102 km from Pathankot to Amritsar would cost Rs 705 crore and 78 km from Ludhiana to Talwandi would cost Rs 479 crore. Road work on all these stretches has been under construction, the Minister said.
The State Public Works Department Minister Sharanjit Singh Dhillon said that the ambitious road project would be completed with an estimated cost of Rs 600 crore
Work on the six-laning of road would start on March 2014. Stating this road as a life line of the entire Malwa region, Dhillon said that this project would include 68 kilometer stretch from Sector-38 Chandigarh to Ludhiana via Kharar, which would be converted into 6 lane.
