The live demos showcased how IES empowers citizens to become active ‘energy agents’, with prosumers trading renewable energy directly with consumers through secure digital protocols.

REC Ltd, a Maharatna CPSE under the Ministry of Power, successfully showcased India’s peer-to-peer (P2P) energy trading pilot under the India Energy Stack (IES) at the India AI Impact Summit 2026, held at Bharat Mandapam, New Delhi, from February 16-21. The live demonstration was part of a strategic session titled ‘India Energy Stack (IES) and the AI-Ready Power Sector: Trust, Interoperability, and Scale’ on February 17, one of three high-level thematic sessions with global partners, complemented by cutting-edge exhibits at REC’s pavilion.

In a first-of-its-kind demonstration, Arun Singh, a farmer from Meerut, sold six units of surplus solar power via a blockchain-enabled platform to Lakshmi, a garment shop owner in Delhi, earning ?30. This historic transaction illustrated how IES empowers citizens to become active ‘energy agents’, enabling prosumers—households, businesses, and farmers—to trade renewable energy directly with consumers through trusted digital protocols.
The demo was witnessed by senior leaders including Dr Ram Sewak Sharma (Chair, IES), Jitendra Srivastava (CMD, REC), Ashish Kumar Goel (Chairman, UP Power Corporation Ltd), Alok Kumar (DG, AIDA), Reji Pillai (President, ISGF), Shashank Misra (Joint Secretary, Ministry of Power), Prince Dhawan (Executive Director, REC), and Swetha Ravi Kumar (Executive Director, FSR Global).

Prime Minister, Power Minister Witness IES in Action
On February 16, Prime Minister Narendra Modi viewed a P2P energy trading demo at the MeitY Pavilion, followed by Union Power Minister Manohar Lal at the REC Pavilion on February 18. Both engagements highlighted IES’ transformative potential, alongside AI-driven solutions presented by technology partners.
IES is an interoperable digital framework of open standards and protocols enabling secure, low-cost data and service exchange across the power sector—akin to how UPI revolutionised digital payments. REC serves as the nodal agency for IES on behalf of the Ministry of Power.
