In Gujarat, construction of the Modasa-Malpur road was stalled for a prolonged time on March 1 after local residents near the Malpur road by-pass protested against the poor quality bitumen used in the construction. The road is being constructed by the State Roads and Buildings Department. Protesting residents had called an immediate stop of the construction work when the first layer of material prepared for the road eroded causing many motorists to slip.
The in charge officers and engineers were called on to the site to explain the residents. One such member Nilesh Joshi said that the responsible supervisory officer Razak Durani and his senior from the roads and building department were there and assured the quality of the road. It was only then that they had allowed the department to proceed with the constitute toon work.
