Work on India's major ferry service for vehicles, cargo and passengers across the Gulf of Khambhat in Gujarat will start from January 25, according to Gujarat Maritime Board (GMB).The project will shorten the distance between Dahej in south Gujarat and Ghogha in Saurashtra region by close to 300 km.
Essar Infra was given the Rs 176 crore Engineering, Procurement and Construction (EPC) contract for setÂting up the Roll-on Roll-off (Ro-Ro) terminals at both the ends of the Gulf. The work is likely to get completed in 15 months after the construction work starts.
Under the project, Essar Infra will construct terminals at Dahej and Ghogha. The project is taken up on Public Private Partnership (PPP) mode, modelled along the air traffic.The terminals will be handed over to and managed by GMB, while the ferry services will be provided by private operators.GMB has identified four routes for to-and-fro ferry service.
