In Andhra Pradesh, the delay in land acquisition process in seven villages has become a bottleneck for widening the Vijayawada-Machilipatnam highway into four-lane road. District Collector Budhaprakash M Jyothi asked the revenue divisional officials to speed up the process to hand over the land to the contractors so as to start the work.

The Central Cabinet Committee on Infrastructure had approved four-lane works of Vijayawada-Machilipatnam in October 2011, and principal secretary for R&B SP Singh conducted a review meeting on January 31 and directed the revenue officials for early completion of land acquisition process in seven villages.

Officials concerned in the Revenue Department have acquired 80 per cent of land in 27 villages and are yet to complete the process in seven villages of Edupugallu, Poranki, Kanuru, Kankipadu, Gandigunta, Nidumolu and Jujjuvaram. Once land is acquired, the NHAI authorities are ready to entrust the total work to contractors.

The officials handed over the acquired land to the contractors and they are ready to commence the work in March. The proposed Vijayawada-Machilipatnam road would remain as it is upto four kms till Sidhartha Engineering College and from there to eight kms, it would be widened upto 150 feet and from eight kms to 64.5 kms, the road would be widened upto 200 feet.

According to NHAI authorities, as part of Vijayawada-Machilipatnam road widening works, taken up at a cost of Rs 606 crore, a flyover would be constructed from skew bridge to Nirmala Convent Junction. The revenue officials have to award land acquisition for 32 hectares including at Gandigunta near Vuyyur and Nidumolu and Jujjuvaram villages and in some villages in Vijayawada division.
