The Union Highways Ministry has sought Rs 300 crore from the government for immediate restoration of road network in the flood devastated Uttarakhand. The cost of permanent work will be assessed later. The two worst affected stretches – Rishikesh to Mana and Rudraprayag to Gauri Kund – need Rs 30 crore each for immediate repair, according to an estimate submitted by the Border Roads Organization (BRO) to the highways ministry.

The other four National Highways (NHs) maintained by the Organisation will require at least another 40 crore to make the stretches mortorable. Already the Uttarakhand PWD has sought Rs 30 crore from the Highways Ministry for repair and restoration of stretches maintained by the agency.

Based on the fund requirement forwarded by the two organisations road secretary Vijay Chibber has written to secretary expenditure to allocate the amount.
