The Department of Telecom (DoT) has projected an investment of Rs 6,50,000 crore in the sector in the next five years. The Telecom Ministry has made a provision of adding 1,200 million new telephone connections by 2017. The DoT has set a target of 175 million broadband connections by 2017 and also to provide fibre connectivity to 2.50 lakh village Panchayats.
