Continuing with its development plans, the Rajasthan government is looking at the possibility of constituting a rural road development authority for connecting roads in its villages. To link 10,000 villages in the state with district headquarters, the Public Works Department (PWD) is likely to float a separate agency. The mandate of the body will be just to oversee the construction of roads falling in the rural areas.

Meanwhile, the government has started working on a regulatory body for state highways. The department is pushing the Bill to be presented in the next session of the assembly. In the next five years, the government has planned to construct nearly 20,000 km of roads in the state. It aims to make all the state highways minimum 10 metre wide. At present there is irregularity in the width.
