The proposed facility will augment East Coast Railway’s wagon maintenance infrastructure, boosting overhaul capacity and asset availability, while reducing turnaround time for freight wagons.
Rail Vikas Nigam Ltd (RVNL), a Navratna public sector enterprise under the Ministry of Railways, has received a Letter of Acceptance (LOA) from East Coast Railway for setting up a 200-wagon periodic overhaul (POH) workshop at Kantabanji, Odisha. The project will be executed in engineering, procurement and construction (EPC) mode.
The contract is valued at ₹2.01 billion, with a stipulated completion period of 540 days from the appointed date.
Commenting on the development, Saleem Ahmad, Chairman & Managing Director, RVNL, said, “The Wagon POH Workshop at Kantabanji will play a crucial role in strengthening freight operations by enhancing maintenance capacity and operational efficiency. RVNL will execute this project using modern technology and the highest construction standards, reinforcing our legacy of execution excellence and contribution to the modernisation and capacity enhancement of Indian Railways and to regional economic growth.”
