Through its dealers, state-run Steel Authority of India (SAIL) plans to sell 1 mn t of steel, SS Mohanty, Director (technical) of the firm said.

He said this while addressing the Annual Dealer’s Award ceremony. The event was conducted to award the company’s outstanding dealers in the Eastern Region.

The state-run firm launched Dealership Scheme with less than 300 dealers in 2005. Today, it has over 3,000 dealers across the country.

The company would soon commission the Wire Rod Mill and the Bar Mill at IISCo. Steel Plant in Burnpur and the new Cold Rolling Mill at Bokaro Steel Plant, respectively.

The commissioning of these units would raise the quantity of SAIL-TMT (rebars) and SAIL-JYOTI (galvanised sheets), two prime products sold through SAIL’s retail channel.

Mohanty urged dealers to exploit the potential of the rural market, where consumption of steel is abysmally low.
