Production of hot metal stood at 10.7 mn t for Steel Authority of India (SAIL) during April-December (2012-13), while that of crude steel was at 10.09 mn t.
Its output increased 2 per cent to 9.25 million tonne (mn t) during this period, over the same period in 2011-12.
During the period under review, the company said the rate of growth in the saleable steel production at par with the growth recorded in hot metal production.
In an official statement, the firm said its performance was marked with an improvement in energy consumption, blast furnace productivity and power generation by 3 percent, 3 percent and 5 percent respectively.
The statement also shows that SAIL’s Bhilai Plant supplied special soft iron magnetic plates for the Neutrino Observatory (INO) project of Bhabha Atomic Research Centre (BARC).
SAIL plants at Bokaro and Salem started production of IS 2062 E450 and E350 HR Coils tailor-made for Indian Railways, it added.
