A memorandum has been submitted to the Prime Minister Manmohan Singh by expressing opposition to the Union government’s decision to entrust construction work of Khongshang-Tamenglong road in Manipur to the State PWD from the Border Road Organisation (BRO).
The memorandum has been submitted to the Prime Minister by Zeliangrong Baudi (Manipur) Poudinlung Riamei and Zeliangrong Youth Front (AMN). They organisations termed the Centre’s decision as ‘anti-people and ‘anti-development’. They also warned the Union government to move the court of law if it goes ahead with its decision.
The petitioning organisations’ stated that the Centre had provided Rs 45 crore during 2004 to 2006 as backward package in the manner of Rashtriya Sam Vikash Yojona (RSVY) for taking up different development works of the area in the past. But this time, passing on the task of the mentioned road work to the State PWD amounts to the Centre’s mistake, the memorandum stated.
