As soon as a new state-of-the-art gas insulated substation is installed at Patto Plaza, the power station in Panaji will improve. Rs 200 million work order to SMS (formerly known as SMS Infrastructure) has been issued by the electricity department to design, supply, install, test and commission 33/11 KV gas insulated substation, along with the associated equipment. A major structure of the high-voltage substation will be insulated in a sealed gas environment and it will not be exposed to air, water or any natural calamity. Currently, Panaji is dependent on three substations located at EDC, Campal and Altinho. While the Campal substation supplies power to Caranzalem, EDC substation supplies power to Panaji and Ribandar. The Altinho substation supplies power to Altinho, St Inex and PanajiÂ’s market area.
