The government is to declare about 7,200 km of roads in approximately 132 districts as national highways. The move is seen as a last minute attempt by the government to improve its tally to bringing in more roads under the NH network. In the past four-and-a-half years, about 10,000 km of state highways were added to the NH network and the fresh addition will take the tally to over 17,000 km under this umbrella.
