The country witnessed the fastest rate of growth in steel production during March in the last three months at 6.5 percent to 6.86 million tonne (mn t), data from the World Steel Association shows.
It may be noted that in January, steel output grew at a slower rate of 3.8 percent to 6.6 mn t while in February it contracted 0.5 percent to 6.2 mn t over the year ago period.
Meanwhile, global steel production grew 1 percent in March to stand at 134.88 mn t against 133.49 mn t a year earlier.
Data from the association also shows that global steel production expanded 2.3 percent to 388.696 mn t during the January-March period of 2013 from 380.058 mn t in the corresponding period a year ago.
In March 2013, China produced nearly half of the global production at 66.29 mn t during the month, clocking 6.6 mn t growth over the same month last year.
