Bharti Airtel to sell 950 towers in Congo
Bharti Airtel has entered into an agreement with Helios Towers Africa (HTA) for divestment of about 950 towers in the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC). The deal will help Airtel deleverage through debt reduction and reduced capital expenditure, though the size was not disclosed.

UAE´s Etisalat and Bharti Airtel have entered into a partnership to set up a multi-service regional network infrastructure node in the region. It includes Airtel´s MPLS services supported by its global network which will allow Airtel to provide advanced data and wholesale services to its customers in the Middle East and Africa.
Mobile tower roll-out slow
The pace of roll-out of cellular towers has declined significantly to just 8,000 a year compared with 14,000 in the previous financial year. According to data available with the Department of Telecom, over 40,000 new towers were added in 2009-10. While there were 3.47 lakh towers on March 2011, this is expected to move up to 3.55 lakh by the end of the current year, a growth of only 2.3 percent.In comparison, the year-on-year growth rate in 2008 was over 60 percent.
Second phase of e-Gram project
The e-Gram project the of Gujarat government, which has so far covered 13,700 villaÂges, is all set to begin its second phase soon. Airtel, which is a partner in the project, has chaÂlked out the second phase plan. Of the total over 18,000 villages in the state, 13,700 have already been covered while in the second phase aims at covering the remaining villages.
