India to ease overseas flying norms to airlines
The Union government is to drop the condition of '5/20 rule' to Indian airlines by next November to fly on overseas routes. The government is to scrap the rule requiring airlines to fly on domestic routes for five years and to possess a fleet of at least 20 planes before launching overseas operations, say media reports.
Centre asks States to cut VAT on jet fuel to 4%
The Union government on September 10 asked State governments to cut value added tax (VAT) on jet fuel to four per cent and ease a major burden on aviation industry in the country. The move comes as Indian airlines posting a combined loss of about Rs 10,000 crore in 2012-13 and a total debt of almost Rs 90,000 crore.
AI to set up hub in Chennai or Blore to garner air traffic
The government-owned carrier Air India has been asked by the the Union Civil Aviation Minister Ajit Singh to develop a hub in South India to target passenger traffic from the states in the region. Air India has to consider setting up a hub in Chennai or Bangalore. It can have its main hub in Delhi, Singh said.
Govt defends Rs 2,000 cr Jet-Etihad deal
The Union government on July 2 defended the nearly Rs.2,000 crore deal between Jet Airways and Abu Dhabi-based carrier Etihad, saying the investment is important for India and opposition to the pact is politically motivated. Those opposing the deal are long on politics and short on facts, Union Civil Aviation Minister Ajit Singh said about the widespread opposition to the deal.
Defence ministry provides land for airport terminal project
Union Defence Ministry agreed to provide 50 to 70 acre of land to the civil aviation ministry to build a new terminal building in the Agra airport.
