The Union Civil Aviation Minster Ajit Singh has said that the Indian government is in the process of negotiating for more flying rights with the Abu Dhabi government as they have been fully utilised by both sides. At the request of Jet Airways for a code partnership as country's second-largest private carrier is in crucial negotiations with Abu Dhabi-based Etihad Airways for a possible equity deal.

Ajit Singh says Indian aviation sector is reviving
Union Civil Aviation Minister Ajit Singh said on March 17 that various government policy measures for the civil aviation sector have begun to yield results and the airline industry in India is witnessing a revival. On account of these policies, the general aviation business would emerge as a key driver of regional connectivity and economic development, he said.

Union Aviation Minister Ajit Singh has said that India allows foreign airlines to invest as much as 49 per cent stake in local airline firms regardless of whether the investment is made before a joint venture is formed or after. Singh was instrumental in permitting foreign carriers to invest in local airlines by amending the existing foreign direct investment rules, as part of efforts to help local airlines get much-needed funds.
Centre seeks land for new Patna international airport
The Union Civil Aviation Minister Ajit Singh has said on March 7 that the Union government plans to build a new international airport at Bihta, outside Patna, but availability of land from the State government is an issue. Stating this in Rajya Sabha, he said since there is little scope for expansion of the Patna airport, a new facility is being proposed outside Bihar's capital city.
Air India Express fleet to get 15 more aircraft
As part of the turnaround plan of Air India, 15 more aircraft would be added in the fleet of the State-owned carrier Air India Express (AIE), Civil Aviation Minister Ajit Singh said on March 7. The turnaround plan of Air India of which AIE is a subsidiary, envisages increase in the fleet strength of AIE from the present 21 to 36 aircraft by March 2018, he told the Rajya Sabha.

The Union government is likely to place a new legislation in the ongoing session of Parliament that will replace the Director General of Civil Aviation (DGCA), the present regulator, with a new autonomous regulatory body.
Air India ups efforts to raise money for its turn around
Apart from leasing its headquarters building in Mumbai, cash-strapped Air India has identified some more properties to monitise them in order to raise Rs 5,000 crore as part of its turn around and financial restructuring plan, Civil Aviation Minister Ajit Singh said on February 27. Air India has identified land at Chennai, Coimbatore and Kolkata, residential plot at DLF Phase-III Gurgaon, a residential apartment in Kolkata and four unoccupied flats in Mumbai, Singh said this in the Lok Sabha.
Govt withdraws Kingfisher’s overseas traffic rights
The Union government has withdrawn traffic rights allocated to Kingfisher Airlines under bilateral aviation pacts with other countries with immediate effect. The ministry has also cancelled the domestic slots allocated to the airline under these slots, Aviation Minister Ajit Singh said on February 25.
