The cabinet will consider a proposal to subsidise gas-based power plants to prevent electricity from becoming too costly. The power ministry has circulated a draft note for the cabinet committee on economic affairs (CCEA) for improving the viability of gas-based power generation, which seeks approval to allocate financial subsidy by the government to address the issue of substantial increase in the price of domestic natural gas.

Greenko commissions wind farm
Greenko Group commissioned a 50-MW wind farm in Anantapur district of Andhra Pradesh.
The wind farm was built with an outlay of EUR 43 million using Gamesa´s G97 turbines and has a capacity to deliver better performance in an average year. With this, the company´s total installing power generating portfolio has increased to 476 MW.

The Visakhapatnam Port in Andhra Pradesh is to take up expansion and development works worth Rs 641 crore. The works include dredging and development of West Quay-North berth. The port is to take up as many as eight berths for capacity augmentation and modernisation through Public Private Partnership (PPP) operators.

The proposed second major port in Andhra Pradesh at Duggarajupatnam has been opposed by the Indian Space Research Organisation (Isro) since the beginning. Isro opposed the port proposal at at Duggarajupatnam because of its close proximity to the space centre or spaceport at Sriharikota.
Gamesa bags order from AP
Gamesa Wind Turbines will supply 27 units of G97-2.0 MW turbines at Tagguparthi in Andhra Pradesh for an emerging power and utility development company. It has signed a 54 MW wind power project order with the company. Under the contract, the commissioning is scheduled to be completed by May 2014.
MMD India to invest in Sri City
MMD Mining Machinery Developments in the UK has laid the foundation stone for its new production unit at Sri City Special Economic Zone in Andhra Pradesh. The company's Indian subsidiary MMD (India) to handle the production unit. The company will initially invest Rs 100 crore in this project and will offer employment to 200 people. The company offers mineral sizers, heavy duty apron plate feeders, caterpillar chains and rollers, and sizer stations.
AP to get 130 cyclone shelters
With financial assistance of the World Bank, a total of 130 cyclone shelters are being built in Andhra Pradesh, 17 of them in Visakhapatnam district. The National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) announced this in Visakhapatnam on October 17 after visiting the cyclone-hit areas in the state.
Visakha Co-op Bank to open 3 new branches
In Andhra Pradesh, Visakhapatnam Co-operative Bank has 32 branches and now it is set to open three more branches in the State. It plans to further expand operations by 2016, its centenary year.
