With an investment of Rs 9,500 crore, Visakhapatnam Port Trust (VPT) will establish a major port at Duggarajupatnam in Nellore district of Andhra Pradesh. The exact location proposed for the port is at Duggarajupatnam, where four berths would be constructed. The site would be developed as a major port in the East Coast, VPT said in Visakhapatnam.

Govt okays RIL-BP’s plan to invest $3.18 bn in KG-D6 block
A plan of Reliance Industries and BP has been approved by the Union government to invest $3.18 billion in R-series gas field in the KG-D6 basin in Andhra Pradesh, which is expected to produce up to 13 million standard cubic metre gas, said the government and industry officials. As per the approved plan, the field is estimated to hold about 1.2 trillion cubic feet of recoverable gas reserves.
Centre to develop two new major ports in AP, WB
The Government has decided to develop two new major ports with private participation under the Public Private Partnership (PPP) Mode, one at Dugarajapatnam in Andhra Pradesh and the other at Sagar Island in West Bengal, said the Union Minister of Shipping GK Vasan in a written reply in the Lok Sabha on August 26.
Anti-bifurcation stir hits fertiliser movement at AP ports
In Andhra Pradesh the ongoing anti-bifurcation agitation in the coastal Andhra Pradesh is causing huge loss to ports in the state. Agitations hit Vizag port business
Not just road transport, but also the sea trade is getting affected in Andhra Pradesh due to the ongoing protest for 'Samaikhyandhra' (meaning united Andhra Pradesh) in Semaandhra region of the AP. At Visakhapatnam Port in the state, about 18 vessels and 3 lakh tonne of cargo was remained idle for eight hours.
Rites estimate costs for AP, West Bengal port projects
Rail India Technical and Economic Services (Rites) found that the capital costs involved in setting up Sagar port in West Bengal is estimated at Rs 7,820 crore. It also found that the capital cost for Dugarajapatnam port project in Andhra Pradesh would be Rs 7,988
Central Bank of India to add 23 branches in coastal AP
During the current financial year, the Central Bank of India is to add 23 more branches in the coastal Andhra Pradesh, said Balakrishnan, the bank Field General Manager in charge of Karnataka and Andhra Pradesh. He added that the bank was competing with the new generation private banks in providing services to customers. Balakrishnan said this in Visakhapatnam on August 7 after opening the bankÂ’s 75th retail asset branch in the country.
