The KGS Aranmula International Airport Ltd has moved the Supreme Court against the National Green Tribunal (NGT) verdict cancelling the environmental clearance given to the airport project by the Union Ministry of Environment and Forests.

The National Green Tribunal's verdict cancelling the environmental clearance given to the KGS Group to build the country's first private international airport at Aranmula is a huge setback for the company as well as Kerala government.

In response to a petition filed by the Aranmula Heritage Village Protection Action Council, the National Green Tribunal has stayed the Rs 2,000-crore Aranmula private airport project in Kerala. After announcing the launch of its own airline, Air Kerala, the Kerala government is now looking at picking up an equity stake in the upcoming greenfield international airport at Aranmula in Pathanamthitta district of the state.
