For the financial year 2013-14, Assam received a plan outlay of Rs 12,500 crore which was cleared by the Planning Commission. This is 19 per cent higher than the allocation of Rs 10,500 crore in 2012-13. The outlay was agreed at a meeting of Assam Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi with Planning Commission Deputy Chairman Montek Singh Ahluwalia.

NRL executes expansion project
Assam-based Numaligarh Refinery (NRL), a subsidiary of Bharat Petroleum Corporation (BPCL), is in the process of executing expansion projects in order to raise its refining capacity to 8-9 million metric tonnes per annum (mn mtpa) from 3.0 mn mtpa.
Construction of Balipara-Tawang road to be ready by 2016
The road from Tezpur to Balipara (20 Km) in Assam is already double-laned and double laning of the stretch from Balipara to Tawang (317.52 Km) is under progress by Border Roads Organisation (BRO), said the Union Defence Minister AK Antony in the Lok Sabha recently. The probable date of completion of the road Balipara-Charduwar-Tawang to National Highway Double Lane (NHDL) specifications is March 2016, he added.

The company is also considering options of sourcing and transporting the additional crude oil through a pipeline.
