In order to cater to the increasing traffic of import and export cargo, major and minor ports in the country are upgrading their infrastructure. Port authorities must focus specifically on increasing the depth of drafts, modernising cargo handling systems, upgrading rail and road connectivity besides increasing cargo handling capacity.
