The Competition Commission has imposed a fine of Rs 591 crore on Coal India for allegedly having discriminatory conditions in fuel supply pacts. Apart from directing the company to cease and desist from anti-competitive practices, the watchdog has ordered modification in the agreements.
JSW Energy-Jaiprakash deal for 500 MW plant gets CCI nod
The Competition Commission has approved Sajjan Jindal-promoted JSW Energy’s purchase of the 500 MW Bina thermal power plant from Jaiprakash Power Ventures. Under the deal, announced in July, JSW Energy will buy 100 per cent stake in the special purpose vehicle (SPV) — Bina Power Supply Ltd (BPSL) — to which the 500 MW power plant is to be transferred.

The Competition Commission of India (CCI) has cleared Adani Power´s proposed deal with Lanco Infratech to buy latter´s 1,200-MW imported coal-fired power plant at Udupi in Karnataka for more than Rs 6,000 crore.

Cabinet note on coal for captive plants
The Planning Commission has circulated a Cabinet note seeking to implement the recommendations of the BK Chaturvedi Committee to ensure coal supply for captive power plants (CPPs). The note for consideration of the Cabinet Committee on Investment (CCI) suggests that the Coal Ministry sign initial pacts as envisaged to provide coal to consumers, including CPPs, which cannot be covered with letters of assurances or fuel supply agreements, Coal Ministry sources said.
