Improved footpaths to more Chennai roads
In its second phase of the footpath improvement scheme, the Chennai Corporation has decided to redesign and develop footpaths in 249 bus routes in the city. A sub-committee of the Chennai Unified Metropolitan Transport Authority (CUMTA) on November 5 took a decision to invite bids to redesign these stretches.
Rs 9.9 cr okayed for works on Harrington Road
An alternative technology that will enable laying of concrete roads without disrupting traffic is to be adopted by the The Chennai Corporation. The Corporation Council on October 31 approved the use of slip form/fixed form concrete pavers in re-laying some roads to expedite the work without disrupting traffic in the area.
Chennai Corp sets up road quality testing labs
Stating that faulty road compaction is one of the primary reasons for potholes, the Chennai Corporation has stated that it has set up quality control laboratories in each of its 15 zones to improve the quality of its road construction works.
Chennai roads turning pedestrian-friendly
Delhi-based Centre for Science and Environment has praised the initiative of the Chennai Corporation of widening of footpaths, make them pedestrian friendly and regulate traffic on the city roads. The Corporation is widening the footpaths from 1.5 metre to 3 metre by reclaiming space.
Contractors asked to repair re-laid roads in Chennai
The re-laid roads in the past three years in Chennai city have already been damaged. Three years is the guarantee period of the contractors concerned and the re-laid roads are damaged within the guarantee period. Residents are complaining that when the north-east monsoon arrives in the city, condition of such damaged roads would be much worse. Chennai’s Kaliamman Koil Street to be widened soon
The Virugambakkam ResidentsÂ’ Welfare Association submitted a petition to the Chennai Corporation Mayor Saidai Samiyappan Duraisamy to facilitate the road widening work on Kaliamman Koil Street, Virugambakkam, at the earliest, at a public consultation meeting. As per the Development Rights Certificate, an additional Floor Space Index (FSI) will be allocated.
Road repairs delayed in Chennai’s Tiruvottiyur zone
Road repair works in Chennai's Tiruvottiyur zone, which started more than six months back by the Chennai Corporation, are still incomplete. The Corporation started road Âimprovement works for the eight newly-added arÂeas.
Traffic congestion and encroachments on the Tiruvottiyur High Road, which connects the city to the northern suburbs, are still a problem for residents and motorists.
Chennai’s Ayanavaram Road widening to begin soon
Chennai Corporation officials has said that road widening work of the Ayanavaram Road and Raji Street that connects Medavakkam Tank Road and New Avadi Road may finally begin by January. Already the road widening has been delayed by three-years.
