New Board of Trustees at CHPT

The Union government has reconstituted the Board of Trustees of Chennai Port (ChPT) for a period of two years from April 2014 to March 2016. Chairman Atulya Misra has been retained as ex-officio chairman of the trust. The reconstituted board has 20 members. There are seven ex-officio members on the board representing the Ministry of Shipping, Customs, State government, the Defence Services, Indian Railways, Coast Guard and Mercantile Marine Department.

At Chennai Port, modernisation of the cruise terminal would begin in 2014 at an estimated cost of Rs 22.14 crore. The port has got Rs 8.5 crore from the Union government for development of a cruise tourism facilitation centre. The Ministry of Tourism has identified Chennai port as one of the ports for development of cruise tourism in India.

Chemoil Adani interested to develop bunkering facility

To develop a bunkering facility at Chennai port, Chemoil Adani, a joint venture between Chemoil and Adani, has expressed its keen interest. The Indian Oil Corporation is the only supplier of bunker – fuel oil used aboard ships – in Chennai. Mundra, Colombo and Kochi ports have developed bunkering facility. The Kandla port has also taken initiative to improve this facility, say media reports.
