As the Tamil Nadu government targeting the southern parts of the state for industrial development, Thoothukudi on July 27 launched a two-day roadshow to woo investors in Chennai. Former president of The All India Chamber of Commerce and Industries T Vel Shankar said the idea was to make Thoothkudi the investment hub.

Cargo cost set to come down thanks to coastal shipping
With the development of coastal shipping in India, soon a car manufactured at a Sriperumbudur plant near Chennai would be able to reach Mithapur in GujÂarat within five days. While the companies can move 50 truckload of cargo in one ship, the water transportation method would also bring down manufacturing cost of the product, fuel expense and reduce carbon footprint.
Everstone to invest $34 mn in Hinduja Leyland Finance
Everstone Group, a private equity firm focused on India and Southeast Asia, has agreed to invest Rs 200 crore ($33.54 million) for a significant minority stake in commercial vehicle financing firm Hinduja Leyland Finance, the companies said on July 22. The Chennai-based non-banking finance company is owned by the Hinduja Group, which runs India's second-biggest bus and truck maker Ashok Leyland.
Flyover planned at Rs 400 cr to link key roads in Chennai
In Chennai, the planned flyover connecting the Old Mahabalipuram Road and the East Coast Road is now a step closer to reality. The design of the flyover that would start near Tidel Park on OMR and land on ECR was given a go-ahead by a technical committee of the State highways Department that met a few days ago.The proposed flyover will begin just after the small bridge on the Buckingham Canal on West Avenue Road.
AI to set up hub in Chennai or Blore to garner air traffic
The government-owned carrier Air India has been asked by the the Union Civil Aviation Minister Ajit Singh to develop a hub in South India to target passenger traffic from the states in the region. Air India has to consider setting up a hub in Chennai or Bangalore. It can have its main hub in Delhi, Singh said.
Thirumangalam flyover in Chennai to open in 3 months
In Chennai, completion of the Thirumangalam flyover is further delayed. It was to be opened by April, but now it has a new deadline for completion — September. Work was delayed by land acquisition and lack of cooperation between government agencies. The flyover on Inner Ring Road will go over the junction of Anna Nagar 2nd Avenue and Mogappair Road, and will speed up travel for commuters from Koyambedu, Ambattur, Red Hills and Avadi.

Chennai’s Kotturpuram roads in a dilapidated condition
In Chennai, Kotturpuram of ward number 172 is suffering from civic woes, claim civic activists of the area. At a time when several wards have been re-laid with new roads, residents of the ward say that even patchwork is not done regularly in Kotturpuram. Moily moots Mangalore-Chennai corrodor via Blore
The Union Minister of Petroleum and Natural Gas Marpadi Veerappa Moily has taken initiative to speed up work on the Mangalore Special Economic Zone (MSEZ). There are complaints that the work on MSEZ was delayed due to improper road connectivity. A meeting should be held with the residents residing in the areas and the problems need to be solved within ten days, said Moily.
