For construction of roads along the China border, Indian government has identified as many as 73 roads as strategically important. Out of the 73 roads, 19 roads measuring 440.74 km are in Uttarakhand, Union Defence Minister A K Antony told the Lok Sabha on December 17.

To review progress of road construction along China border the Indian Home Ministry will hold a review meeting this week. Media had last week highlighted about the tardy pace of construction of the key stretches in Sikkim and Uttarakhand that are being built for Indo-Tibet Border Police (ITBP).
