Coal Mines Bill gets Parliament nod
With the passing of the Coal Mines (Special Provisions) Bill 2015 by the Rajya Sabha, the Bill gets the approval of the Parliament. Earlier, the Lok Sabha had passed this Bill on March 4, 2015.

The power sector had been facing serious challenges over the past few years. The key issues pertain to shortfall in supply of coal and gas, delay in clearances for projects and the declining financial health of electricity distribution utilities.
Coal e-auctions likely by February
The Coal Ministry has issued draft guidelines for reallocation of coal mines cancelled by the SC, marking the duties of the authorities appointed to operate the ordinance issued. The Centre plans to conduct a two-stage auction under the Coal Mines Special Provisions Ordinance.
