The Dakshina Kannada district administration has earmarked land to build a hover port to base hovercraft of the Indian Coast Guard at New Mangalore. The Deputy Commissioner of the district has been proactive in facilitating various formalities to hand over the land to the Coast Guard. It is now awaiting the approval from the Ministry of Defence.

Subsidiary of State-owned SBI, State Bank of Mysore (SBM) will open 101 branches in the country on October 5 to commemorate its centenary celebrations this year. It will open seven new branches in Dakshina Kannada and Udupi districts of Karnataka on October 5.
Roads in a bad shape in Malnad region of Karnataka
In Karnataka's Malnad region, roads of Shimoga district that connect the coastal districts of Dakshina Kannada, Udupi and Uttara Kannada are in a pathetic condition.
